The Different Kinds of Pasta

Pasta Fun Facts

There are many different types of pasta, but four that you really need to know.

We don’t spend enough time thanking the Italians for inventing their delicious cuisine. From stuffed shells to pizza, there’s at least one dish that originated in Italy everyone across the world loves. But, some people just aren’t aware of how many Italian pasta dishes there are. That’s why today, we are going to show our appreciation for various Italian pasta dishes.

Ravioli

Ravioli is very versatile, making it a great main course when you have to serve a variety of people. It’s a small sheet piece of pasta, which is folded over your choice of stuffing and pinched together. The stuffing could be vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, or almost anything else you can think of. You can also use a variety of sauces, ranging from heavy red sauce to light herb butter sauce. The filling and sauce are designed to compliment each other. But no matter what kind of sauce you like or what stuffing you like, you’ll always be satisfied when you order ravioli.

Spaghetti

Even in restaurants that don’t specialize in Italian food, you will most likely find spaghetti on the menu. That’s because spaghetti is one of the most popular dishes in the world! Spaghetti is a bundle of noodles, designed to be carefully twirled around your fork. Some spaghetti will come with no sauce, but most of the time it will be served with a loose, sweet tomato sauce. Spaghetti can be served with meatballs on top, or you can just enjoy the spaghetti on its own. Either way, it makes for a great dinner.

Bucatini

Bucatini is similar to spaghetti, but it’s a heftier version that is hollow in the center. This is one of the best types of pastas for ragu-style sauces that are thick. The hole in the bucatini allows for sauces to drip through, making them even more juicy and delicious.

Penne

Penne is cut on an angle and appears tubular. It almost looks like the nib of a feather quill.  The ridges on the penne pasta help the sauce cling to it, which ensures that you have an adequate serving of pasta and noodle in every bite.
